Sharon Louise Ammon

Monday, August 10, 2026, our sweet Sharon passed peacefully surrounded by those who loved her. She was an incredible sister, daughter, wife, mom, Gramma, aunt, dog mom, friend and advocate for so many. Her life on earth was spent pouring out her love to those closest to her. While we will miss her dearly, we rest in knowing that she is no longer suffering. Sharon’s favorite hymn was “Here I am Lord”. The words echo her life.

Her career always centered on helping and aiding people. She spent many years working for Oklahoma Department of Human Services in child protective services. Sharon left her position with DHS to start her family with Mike.

Sharon resumed her career with Casey Family Programs in Oklahoma City this time working with foster children and preparing them for life after they aged out of foster care. There she became acquainted and worked with Renea Butler King. They became lifelong friends and enjoyed many long conversations about life, their families and world events.

After Casey, Sharon spent many years as Volunteer Coordinator for Legal Aid Services of Oklahoma in the Oklahoma City office. She loved this position and her work with firm attorneys, interns and volunteers at Make a Will Clinics for the underserved communities in Oklahoma was special to her. At Legal Aid, Sharon was an Affordable Health Care Navigator that trained staff in other offices to handle calls from the public during the rollout of the Affordable Health Care Marketplace.

Sharon was a member of onsite Red Cross Disaster Relief team in Louisiana after Hurricane Katrina for weeks in November 2005. As always, Sharon made many friends from around the United States and kept in touch with many of them over the years.

Sharon was always bringing people together, whether it was coordinating cousin sleepovers in the summer or Easter Sunday at her house, complete with a backyard sermon and all you can eat chocolate display at the kids table.

She believed in the power of community and acted in big ways like organizing the “Yes I Can” alumni network for young adults who had aged out of foster care, as well as small acts like passing out refreshments to her fellow early voters in line at the election board.

She was a safe and supportive figure to everyone in her family, showing up for everyone and making sure they felt seen and loved and accepted for who they were.

She loved the natural world and especially her blue birds and beautiful garden that she cared for with such dedication.

One of her favorite movies was the Disney movie “CoCo”, she loved the song lyrics of “our love for each other will live on forever”. She lovingly sets up our family offrenda to celebrate Dia de los Muertos each year.

She loved taking her grandsons on vacation from South Padre Island to the coast of Oregon and the Redwoods of California. Fall break weekend trips to cabins in Oklahoma were always special times.

Sharon was born in Albuquerque, NM to Robert Louis and Henrietta Louise Beaty McAfee on January 29. 1952.

While she grew up in Oklahoma City, Sharon always felt like it was her high desert home when in New Mexico and loved her travels to Albuquerque for balloon fiestas and Santa Fe for Spanish Market, Indian Market and especially for Las Posadas on the Plaza candlelit procession in December reenacting Mary and Joseph’s search for shelter. With light snow falling, ending with lighting of the farolitos and hot chocolate at the Inn of the Governors.

Sharon characterized herself as “spiritual”, rather than “religious”, but she lived her life as a Christian following Jesus’ teachings through her work, her volunteer work and the advocacy for the people who needed it.

Sharon is survived by husband of 47 years, Mike, daughter Beth, grandson Jackson and grandson Sol, sister Martha Bitter, sister Nancy Thompson and her husband Mark, sister-in-law Sally McAfee. Sharon was preceded in death by her father, Robert Louis McAfee, her mother Henrietta Louise Beaty McAfee, her son John Michael, her siblings Roberta Sullivan, Patrick McAfee and Michael McAfee.

Our family was truly blessed to have the aid and comfort given to Sharon by Emerald Hospice. Alex developed a special connection of trust with Sharon and us. Sharon got her wish to stay at home. She was loved and cared for at home by sisters Martha and Nancy, daughter Beth and Mike.

In lieu of flowers, Sharon wished you do something that Sharon loved to do. Volunteer for a cause that you feel passionate about, help a friend and spread kindness.

A Celebration of Sharon’s life will be held at Baggerley Funeral Home, 920 S. Broadway, Edmond on Saturday August 15,2026 at 12:00pm.

Matthew 25:35-40 says,

For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.

The righteous will answer him, “Lord when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink? When did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or needing clothes and clothe you? When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?

The King will reply, “Truly I tell you, whatever you do for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine you did it to me”.
