Sharon Ann Hoipkemeier Coon passed peacefully into the arms of her Savior on February 5, 2025, in Edmond, Oklahoma, at the age of 77. Sharon was a beloved daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, cousin, and friend.
Sharon was born on April 30, 1947, in Ada, Oklahoma to Fredrick and Doris (Morgan) Hoipkemeier. She was actively involved in the Baptist Student Union at East Central State College in Ada, Oklahoma, where she earned a degree in Education in 1967. On September 2nd of that same year she married the love of her life, Dennis Dean Coon, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, and in 1972 the family moved to Edmond, Oklahoma, where Sharon and Dennis would live the rest of their lives. Together they shared many years filled with love, laughter, and cherished memories until his death in 2008.
Sharon was a consummate wife, mother, and homemaker who enjoyed raising her children, baking, entertaining, and crafting. A self-proclaimed perfectionist, she excelled at every craft she put her hands to, including needlepoint, cross stitch, and quilting.
Sharon was a devoted Christian and active church member who sang in the adult choir, directed children’s choirs, contributed to many a potluck meal in the Fellowship Hall, and made Monster Cookies every summer for the Vacation Bible School workers. Eventually, Sharon took a job at the church office and worked there for many years until her retirement.
Sharon was an avid collector of Pepsi memorabilia, thimbles, giraffes, raccoons, ornaments, salt & pepper shakers, Noah’s Arks, quilting fabrics, and nativities, to name a few. As a result of her work as a Tupperware consultant and a Longaberger consultant, her home was full of plastic storage containers and baskets. She loved all things Star Wars, and was a fan of OU football and Thunder basketball. She kept her mind active by reading mysteries and working jigsaw puzzles.
Sharon was deeply committed to her family and her faith. A Bible always rested on her nightstand, and she found great comfort in the Word of God. To Sharon, church wasn’t truly church unless the congregation was singing from the Baptist Hymnal in 4-part harmony!
Sharon’s greatest joy in life was her family. She is survived by her two children Jennifer (David) Donwerth, and Jeff (Christina) Coon; grandchildren, Abby (Cody) Tooley, Craig Donwerth, Henry Coon, and Matthew Coon; and a great-grandson, Sam Tooley, all of whom will continue to carry her memory with them. She also leaves behind her two brothers, Steve (Lori) Hoipkemeier and Karl Hoipkemeier, as well as many cousins, all of whom held a special place in her heart. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and her sister, Gayla Huens.
Sharon’s death leaves a void in the hearts of all who knew her, but her legacy of love and care will endure in the lives she touched. She will be dearly missed but never forgotten.
A memorial service for Sharon will be held Saturday, February 15, 2025 at2:00 PM at Baggerley Funeral Home, 930 South Broadway, Edmond, OK 73034.
