Sherri was born in Chicago, Illinois October 16, 1962 to Elliott and Willa Stewart. She attended Lindblom Technical High School for two years and finished her schooling out at Whitney Young Magnet High School where she studied performing arts. She was a very talented self-taught musician. She could play many instruments including the guitar, piano, and clarinet. During high school, she was in the Roosevelt University Production of “Kiss Me Kate”.
Following high school, Sherri attended Langton University where she met the love of her life, Joseph E. Evans. Their lives’ journey carried them many places such as, Virginia, Alabama, and Houston, but they always ended back in Oklahoma City. Sherri was a God-fearing woman who stood by her husband’s side until his demise in 2015.
She was an integral part in several ministries throughout the years. She attended Jesus Church and Unity Christian Center for many years until she and her husband founded Word Alive Ministries and continued in that until 2004 when life called them to the next chapter. She participated in the Women of Excellence International ministries and alongside her husband, they led a singles ministry and Prophets Corner. In later years when her health didn’t permit, she became a faithful online member of the Inspiring Body of Christ Church.
Over the years, Sherri worked as a real estate agent, sales clerk, and customer service representative. Together with her husband, the created Black Eagle Graphics, a graphics design company.
Sherri enjoyed many things like knitting, reading up on the Royal Family, studying gemstones, and interior design just to name a few. Gardening was always a passion of hers as well. She proudly became a Master Gardner after completing the course in 2017 taught at Oklahoma State University. She had a true green thumb and was able to enjoy getting up in the morning and picking fresh food to eat.
Sherri was most proud of her two children; she was always there to make things special for them. She was a praying mother who never stopped interceding for them even in her health struggles. She was a caring person who was always willing to help in a time of need. Sherri often sacrificed her own to make sure her family or friends had.
There will not be a day that goes by that her family and loved ones will not be thinking of her. She will be sorely missed.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and husband, Joseph E. Evans, Sr.
Survivors include her children, Joseph E. Evans, Jr. and Sherri J. Evans, Jr.; siblings, Phillip Jones, Fay Stewart and Kay Stewart; and nephew, Erik Jones and his loving wife and daughter, Dee and Audrey who she cared for immensely.
