February 6, 1967October 6, 2020

Sonya Elaine Humes, age 53, of Arcadia OK passed away peacefully on Tuesday, 6 October 2020, at home surrounded by her family after a long battle with cancer.

She is dearly missed by her loving husband Tom of 29 years; daughters Peggy (27) and Anna (22); step-mother Audrey Prouty of College Station, TX; brother Richard (Rick) W. Prouty Jr and his wife Mary Jo of Marietta, GA and their sons Richard Prouty (III) and family of Sharpsburg, GA and Sean Prouty and family of Augusta, GA; sister Brenda C. Nagode and her husband Ty of Troy, MT and their daughters Allison Mischenko and family of Troy, MT and Claire Fox and husband of Belgrade, MT; brother Joel J. Prouty of Elkton, MD, niece Elizabeth (Betsy) Ray of Edmond, OK and parents-in-law Edward and Verna Humes of Edmond, OK and sister-in-law Diane Rowland and her husband Mark and their family of Oklahoma City,OK; and sister-in-law Kathryn Beatty and her husband Sid and their family of Knoxville, TN. She was preceded in death by her sister Laura (Melinda) Ray and parents Richard (Dick) and Peggy Prouty.

Sonya and Tom originally met in elementary school, where Sonya established a secret crush on Tom. They eventually became high school sweethearts and settled in Edmond after marriage on 1 March, 1991. Their lives were a partnership in every sense, learning and sharing together as they grew in their union with family and friends throughout their time together. She mastered every task she undertook, from cook to carpenter, mom to mason, gardener to grill master, entrepreneur to electrician, accountant to advocate, bookkeeper to best friend. She had an extraordinary ability to “multi-task” balancing physical and cognitive tasks effortlessly. She fiercely loved family and friends with a true “sixth sense” for compassion, never hesitating to be “all-in” with support, usually without having to be asked. Sonya was addicted to random acts of kindness, often anonymously. She was a consummate wife and partner, loving mother, wonderful sister, devoted daughter, doting aunt, and fervent friend.

All those who shared the gift of knowing her are truly blessed and better for it. There will not be a formal service or memorial. Per Sonya’s wishes, we will gather at a future date in Spring of 2021 with friends and family to celebrate and remember her life and passions. In lieu of flowers, Tom and family request that friends and family consider contributing to a scholarship fund with the local Oklahoma Presbyterian Pilgrimage (OPP), so others may find and bring individuals to Christ as she did. Scholarship donations online will be possible in the near future. Until then please mail or deliver scholarship contributions to:
