

Virginia graduated with a B.S. and M.S. from UCO and taught kindergarten in Edmond for 24 years. She met the love of her life, Sam Hankey, when she was just 14 years old and together they had a wonderful 62 years of marriage. They enjoyed traveling, including visits to Canada, the U.K., and Mexico. They especially enjoyed escaping to Colorado in August to avoid the Oklahoma heat. They played volleyball 1-3 times a week and enjoyed the friendships they made there. Their favorite activity was spending time with their three children and spouses, four grandchildren (all Edmond graduates), and 2 great-grandsons.
Virginia is preceded in death by her parents, four brothers, one sister, and one grandchild, Taylor Sterling Gorrell.
Virginia is survived by her husband, Samuel Leslie Hankey; children, Stanley Roger Hankey and wife Margie, Gina Elizabeth (Hankey) Sewell, and Joy Dawn (Hankey) Gorrell; sister, June Stagner of Wichita Falls, TX; grandchildren, Leila Dawn McCullough and husband Patrick, Roger Mitchell Hankey, Joshua Heath Mize; and great-grandchildren, Kenneth Averill McCullough and Samuel Glendon McCullough.
