

Bill grew up in Sharon, graduating from Sharon High School in 1963. While in high school he played both basketball and football on the junior varsity and varsity teams. Upon graduation, he attended Gettysburg College in Gettysburg, PA, on a football scholarship. He played on the junior varsity team his freshman year and started as middle linebacker for the next three years on the varsity team. He received several accolades including Little All American Honorable Mention.
Following graduation in 1967, he taught for one year at Roosevelt High School in Hyde Park, NY, where he was also the junior varsity football coach and head wrestling coach. For the next eight years, he taught in the Taconic Hills School District, Hillsdale, NY. The first four years of that tenure, he was also the junior varsity basketball and junior varsity football coach. The next four years were spent being the head football coach.
In 1976, he moved with his family to Oklahoma City where he opened Rug and Carpet of Oklahoma. Bill retired from the business in 2023. His longtime business partner, Steve Street, continues to manage the business.
For all his life, Bill was an avid sports fan especially never giving up his loyalty to the Cleveland Browns. He played USTA tennis and captained several winning teams. He was an active golfer at The Greens Country Club in Oklahoma City and during the winter months for ten years at The Key West Golf Club in Key West, FL, where he and his wife Bonnie owned a home.
Bill is survived by his wife of 36 years, Bonnie. Also, he is survived by his son John, John’s former wife (Kelly), granddaughters Alee Loberg (Keegan) and Ashlee Brewer all of Edmond, and Bill’s daughter Wendy Martin, granddaughters Sara Martin and Kayla Burd (Jake), and greatgrandchildren Ellie and Kyler Burd all of Edmond. He is also survived by his former wife Mary Yehle Winn (Jim) of Oklahoma City, younger brother Thomas Brewer (Kathy) of Edmond, and several nieces and nephews.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents and older brothers Alfred (Fred) Brewer of Meridian, MS, and Joe Brewer of Houston.
At Bill’s request, no memorial service will be held. Family and friends may honor his life and memory privately. They may also make donations in his name to St. Jude’s in Memphis or to any meaningful charity.
Special thanks are to be given to the staff at Legend in Edmond and to the Legacy Hospice staff who provided exceptional care for Bill.
