It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Alva “Micky” Gunborg Jonsson (nee Andersson) on May 15, 2025 at her home in Edmonton. Alva was born on April 20, 1923 which means she lived to see her 102nd birthday. She is survived by her daughter Agneta (Gordon); sons Anders (Charlotte) and Don (Susan); grandchildren Casey, Julie and Majken; great-grandchildren Amelie, Zachary and Gabriel; and brother Bror.
Alva was born in Sweden and grew up on a small farm with her five brothers and sisters. She met her future husband Sven Jonsson while attending a secondary school and several years later followed him to Canada where they were married in 1949 at Fogelvik farm outside of Innisfail. From then until 2014 they lived in Innisfail and became fixtures of the community. Ultimately they moved to a seniors home in Edmonton and after 66 years of marriage Sven passed away.
Alva’s long life can be credited to the fact that she simply liked living. She liked to socialize, host dinner parties, dance and play card games. At the age of 86 she suffered a heart attack and the heart surgeon wanted to know if she had a strong enough will to live to survive the bypass surgery. There was never any doubt. Until the last year she would never turn down an opportunity to go out and enjoy herself with the company of others.
For those who knew Micky please raise a glass, preferably aquavit, have a “skol” and enjoy her memory. It is what she would like.
