He was born and raised in Ste. Anne-des-Monts, Quebec, before joining the military in 1972. During his service with the Royal Canadian Air Force, Andy traveled the world as a medic, training officer and as part of honour tours. His most notable memories were training and flying with the Snowbirds, and being part of the honour guard at Vimy Ridge. Andy left the military to focus on his family, and pursue his passion for dogsledding and carpentry.
In his younger years, Andy could always be found tinkering in the old barn, or working with his beloved kennel of Siberian Huskies, training in the summer or sledding in the winter. He was a craftsman at heart, building dog sleds for himself and fellow racers. Evenings were spent threading gang-lines or sewing harnesses, always preparing for that next run. After retirement, Andy continued to follow his passion for animal welfare by volunteering for Second Chance Animal Rescue, transporting rescued animals across Northern Alberta.
Andy was known as a gentle, quiet, passionate and loyal man. He was generous to a fault, and would give in any way he could. He was a dedicated father, always putting his daughter first.
He will be sadly missed by his daughter, Lalenya; brother Jean-Pierre; sisters,
Francine and Marie-Noelle; as well as his close friends who became family.
Andy was predeceased by his father, Bernard, and his mother, Yvette (Leclerc).
The family would like to thank the staff of the Sturgeon Community Hospital ICU and Emergency department for their dedication and compassion for Andy during his stay with them.
Memorial donations can be made to Second Chance Animal Rescue to honor Andy’s wishes to continue supporting animal welfare. www.scarscare.ca
