September 8, 1935 to November 21, 2023.
Catherine Soo-Kit Mah passed away peacefully at her care home in Edmonton at the age of 88.
Catherine leaves behind her loving family: her son Harry Mah of Halifax and grandsons Christopher and Jonathan of Vancouver; her son Ken Mah (Jaymie Heilman) and grandson Theo of Edmonton; her granddaughters Jennifer and Caroline Chow of Toronto; and her siblings Richard (Yee) Kun, Sherry Kun, and Tick-ling Yu and their families.
Catherine was predeceased by her husband Wayne and daughter Patricia Chow.
Catherine was the first of five children born in a village near Guangzhou, China. She grew up during China’s long civil war and subsequent occupation by Japan, and she managed to complete high school under these difficult circumstances. Catherine moved to Canada in 1957 to marry Wayne Mah, and together they established the successful Wayne’s Mens Wear in Antigonish, Nova Scotia while raising their young family. Catherine worked tirelessly to help her father, mother-in-law, siblings, nieces, and nephews migrate to Canada and build their lives here. Catherine loved math, gardening, cooking, and sharing her wisdom, and she was deeply dedicated to her family.
Cremation has taken place in Edmonton and a Memorial Service will be held in Halifax in the summer.
In lieu of flowers, we invite you to donate to the MS Society of Canada.
Sincere thanks to the warm and compassionate staff at Jasper Place Long-Term Care Home who tended to Catherine during her long struggle with dementia.
