OBITUARY

Darcy Allen Dietz

October 27, 1966June 2, 2019

It is with broken hearts that we announce the sudden passing of Dr. Darcy Allen Dietz of Edmonton, Alberta who died unexpectedly at the age of 52 on Sunday June 2, 2019. Darcy will be lovingly remembered by his parents, Charles and Doris Dietz of Melville, Saskatchewan, his sister Karen (Matt) of Oakville, Ontario, brother Mark (Marilyn) of White City, Saskatchewan, twin brother David (Allison) of Waterloo, Ontario, and by his adoring nieces Morgan, Erin, Cassandra, Kara and Angela, and nephews Derrick and Adam.

Darcy was born on October 27, 1966 in Melville, Saskatchewan. He enjoyed spending time on numerous family camping and fishing trips while growing up, and getting together with the large extended family of relatives that lived in the area. He enjoyed and excelled in academics but was also an active participant in band and drama extracurricular activities.

After graduating from Melville Comprehensive High School in 1984, Darcy attended the University of Saskatchewan and received a Bachelor of Science degree in 1989 and a Doctor of Dental Medicine in 1993. During this period, Darcy received awards of merit for outstanding achievements and performance in undergraduate Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, and dentistry for children. As a university student, he spent many extracurricular hours entertaining crowds as part of the Intensely Vigorous College Nine pep band, and enthusiastically welcomed new students as a university orientation leader. After practicing dentistry in Warman and Saskatoon, Darcy continued his education at the University of Alberta in 2000, completing a Master of Science in Orthodontics in 2004. He established his practice in Edmonton, Towne Square Orthodontics, in 2004.

Darcy dedicated his career to helping thousands of clients through his practice, especially children, by bringing smiles and an improved quality of life to so many. Darcy was known for his passion for learning and incredible work ethic, his culinary skills, and his love of travelling and photography. Darcy was a valued and active member of the community as evidenced by his volunteer work at Ronald McDonald House in Edmonton, and as a supporter of the Southwest Edmonton Farmer’s Market, a highlight of which was the Sprouts program designed to encourage children to not only choose healthy vegetables to eat but also to pick and cook them.

Darcy will also be greatly missed by his many colleagues, clients, and friends.

All are invited to attend a Celebration of Life to share memories with Darcy’s family at Hainstock’s Funeral Home, 9810-34th Avenue, Edmonton on Thursday June 13, 2019 at 11:00am.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be made in Darcy’s memory to Ronald McDonald House Charities Alberta.

I wanted to reach out to Dr. Deitz's family and colleagues to express my family's sincere condolences and utter sadness over the passing of Dr. Deitz. He was one of the warmest, kindest health care professionals we have worked with. I was shocked to hear this news last night and in fact had just tried to call the office to try and get an opinion from him. Reading over these memories, he was obviously a special man who touched so many people and the community in general. He will be dearly missed.

We are so sad and sorry for loss.

Adam, my brother, and I met Dr. D when we were both in junior high and we thought of him as a really cool guy... so techy and always had a noticeable positive outlook on everything we talked about. As his talents were reshaping our smile, so was he reshaping us in our confidence and outlook in life, and we are thankful for this. It is evident from his achievements at his young of 52 that he impacted so many lives in a generous way and has left a beautiful legacy for all of us to remember him by.

Hope you find peace,
Alan

Dietz meant a lot to me in the time that we were together. Our relationship started out with emails back and forth that would always bring a smile to my face. When I got a new lab puppy he was all over wanting to bring her to his office so she didn’t have to be alone all day while I was at work. He was such a kind and generous soul. One of my favorite birthday gifts ever came from him. A praying mantis egg case! Only he would think of such a crazy cool thing that he knew I would like. He was always doing that though, thinking of things that would light up other people’s lives. He is a great loss to this world and my condolences go out to his family as well as his work family. He will be missed.

I am so sorry to hear of Darcy’s passing. We attended dental school together, him being two years ahead of me. We had many laughs and intense discussions during that time. He will be missed. My deepest condolences to his family.

This is a hard one as Darcy was an amazing man inside and out.

He first started off as my daughters ortho but within months of seeing him for her braces, he became more then her ortho. He became a friend then over time a greater best friend to me.

I will miss our chats, our confiding in one another and a journey we both were on together. He is in a better place of no pain or anything but will be missed greatly in my life.

I wish I could give you a huge hug to say thank you for all your support.

Sending hugs to all his family and co workers.

My family is saddened to hear of Dr Dietz’s passing. He was a kind man who took great care of our children. He always remembered to ask about people we knew in common and we often shared a laugh. He was very talented and made an effort to make the children feel great about themselves.

Our deepest condolences to Dr Dietz’s family, friends and colleagues at the clinic.

Dr Darcy was a kind clinical instructor at U of S for us fledgling dental students. When I built Summerside Dental in Edmonton he mentored me, introduced me to his cabinet-maker/millworker, and took Curt and I out to dinner. I referred many patients to Dr Darcy over the past 12 years, as he prided himself on having small-town Saskatchewan demeanour and prices in the big Alberta city. The patients loved him, and we will miss him!

I was so saddened to hear the news about Darcy. I will always remember playing music with both Darcy and Dave while going to U of S. We had some great times, fun trips to Grey Cups and lots of laughs. I want to express my deepest sympathy to Darcy’s family.
He will be missed. Rest In Peace my friend.
