April 30, 1931- August 2, 2023
Dave was raised in Northern Ontario, youngest son to John and June and younger brother to Reg. Dave never missed an opportunity to let people know that his upbringing in the region made him prepared for the harsh winters of Alberta.
Following high school in Sioux Lookout Ontario, Dave joined the RCMP and upon graduation was transferred to Alberta where he was known as Ginger. It was there where he met the love of his life, Betty, while stationed in Brooks.
During his 22 year career with the RCMP, Dave had the honour of being part of the Musical Ride and security detail for Queen Elizabeth, Princess Margaret and other important dignitaries until he retired from service in 1970.
Following the RCMP, Dave joined the Alberta Government and enjoyed a second career in Municipal Affairs until his retirement in 1990.
Dave was a proud member of the Masonic Lodge. He was a true gentleman, always generous and kind to everyone he met. No matter where Dave lived or worked, he and Betty made wonderful friends with whom they enjoyed camping, golf, skiing, travel and BBQs.
He was a loving and fun husband to his wife of 67 years Betty, wonderful and understanding dad to his children Brian and Sharon (Dwayne Van Straten), and the best grandpa ever to Mitchell and Whitney.
Dave’s Celebration of Life will be held on Friday September 22, at Hainstock's Funeral Home 9810 - 34 Ave. NW Edmonton, AB. Open house 11:30am-1:30pm with a short presentation at 12pm.
