Donald Asa Bancroft

Donald Asa Bancroft passed away on Tuesday October 1, 2024 at the age of 97 years. Predeceased by his wife Audrey (Hart) Bancroft and grandchildren Trevor Lund and Rebecca Senz. He is survived by his 4 daughters – Donna Gail (Kenneth Murray), Melinda May (Carl Zawadiuk), Lois Mildred (Arnie Lund) and Carol Elaine (Marvin Senz); his grandchildren Donald (Danielle), Shauna, Richard (Chantelle), Liane (Kevin Richardson), Olivia (Skyler Hudson), Kelvin (Wendi), Erin (Lynn Schmuland), Travis, Levi (Libby), Jesse (Sharyn); 10 great grandchildren plus 1 great great grandchild.

Donald was born in Vulcan AB on December 17, 1926 to Asa Charles Bancroft and Catherine Jean (McArthur) Bancroft. He was the 5th of 6 children. His father passed away when he was very young. In 1945 at the age of 18 he joined the Canadian Army.

Don and Audrey were married on May 20, 1950. They were married for over 50 years until Audrey passed away from cancer in 2003.

He earned: BSc in Agriculture, Master of Arts, and; in 1967 Masters of Public Administration and in 1971 Doctor of Philosophy in Public Administration.

He was Professor for 17 years at the U of A teaching Public Administration, he spent time as the Chairman of Local Authorities Board for the Govt of Alberta. His last years were in Camrose at Louise Jensen Care Centre.

For most of his life Don attended Protestant Church. His faith helped him through difficult times.

Don’s family would like to thank the staff at Louise Jensen for their dedication, care and support given to him for the past three years.

Funeral Service will take place on Wednesday October 16, 2024 at 2:00 pm at Hainstock’s Funeral Home, 9810 – 34 Avenue, Edmonton. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.
