He was a proud World War II Veteran, Husband, Dad, Grandpa, Great-Grandpa, and Uncle. He was a resident at the Kipnes Centre for Veterans for the last 4 years and 11 months of his life. He always enjoyed whenever someone took the time to say hi, chat with him, or listen to one of his stories; he loved people.
He also spent many hours writing poetry and sharing his work. A poem he wrote many years ago will be read at his memorial.
He was predeceased by his first wife Alice in 2005, parents Henry and Minnie Berner, and 5 siblings.
He is survived by Verle, his wife of almost 11 years, Daughters: Susan McPhail (Anthony) and Barbara Newman (David), grandchildren Brandon (Gisele), Alyssa (Ben), Lyndsey and Nicholas, 2 sweet great-grandchildren Daniel and Joseph, sister Evelyn Pawluk, brother-in-law Ken Idler, and many nieces and nephews.
Special thanks to all the staff at Kipnes who made his daily living just a little brighter.
A graveside memorial will be planned and his last wish fulfilled to be laid to rest by his cherished first wife Alice in Belloy, Alberta.
Thank-you for making the world a better place for 96 years Dad.
