Douglas was born March 19, 1953 in Hong Kong to parents Lee Tai and Chan Wing. His siblings include an older sister and an older brother. Unfortunate events came early in life when at 14 his father passed away, and at 23 his brother passed away. His mother passed away in 1988.
He developed a huge interest in mechanical/electrical things. He first learned about the electrical trade from a junior high teacher, and later committed to apprenticeship. He was a lifelong learner and always kept up to date with the latest magazine publications on the subject. His career took off after joining the Hong Kong subway company. He was on board when the first subway line was being constructed in Hong Kong. He managed to work his way up to being a lead supervisor at a very young age. He also got the opportunity to travel abroad to the UK for additional training.
Douglas and Anna were introduced by a mutual friend and met on a beach as teenagers in Hong Kong. Love grew and they got married in 1977. One year later, Philip was born. Followed by Billy 3 years later.
Douglas and his young family immigrated to Canada in 1987. Douglas earned his certification at NAIT, and had a 25 year career at General Electric’s power division. He was given the nickname “speedy” by those at GE because of the efficiency and quality he put in his work. He happily retired early at 60 and enjoyed traveling with three grandchildren.
