November 22, 1932 – October 18, 2012
In loving memory of Doug who passed away peacefully with his family by his side at the age of 79 years.
Doug is survived by his loving wife of 43 years, Mary, his daughter Tanya Orr (Dale Lechelt), son Dean Orr, brother Gordon (Myrna) Orr, sisters, Audrey (Don) McKechnie, Shirley VanMetre, Gayle (Collin) Henschel, his grandchildren Kate and Grace Lechelt, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Doug was born in 1932, in Lloydminster, Saskatchewan, one of nine siblings. He married Mary Murray in 1969 and lovingly raised two children, Tanya and Dean, but he was also a father figure to all those who entered the Orr household.
He worked at numerous jobs in his early years, but found lifelong friends and a rewarding career with Remington Tire Distributors. Doug excelled in sales, often being rewarded as the top salesman for the company. His time on the road connected him with the Associated Canadian Travelers (ACT), where he was a member for over 50 years and where he volunteered countless hours fundraising for the many charities supported by the organization.
Doug, or Papa Orr as he is affectionately referred to by family and friends, will be greatly missed.
Many thanks to the doctors and staff at the University of Alberta Hospital for their service and dedication during Doug’s time there in recent years.
A Liturgy of the Word and celebration of Doug’s life, will be held on Friday, October 26, 2012 at OLPH Parish, 13 Brower Dr., Sherwood Park, at 11:30 a.m., with a public viewing starting at 11:00 a.m.
Interment will follow at Glenwood Memorial Gardens, 52356 Range Road 232, Sherwood Park.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to a participating ACT charity (ACTEdmonton.com) or the University Hospital Foundation/Mazankowski Alberta Heart Institute.
