

With heavy hearts, the family of Douglas Roberts Troop announce his passing on Friday, November 6, 2020 at the age of 92 years. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 70 years, June, and their children: Ann (Tony) and Steve; grandchildren Jason (Carrie) and Paul (Heather); Marc Andre and Chantal; great grandchildren: AJ, Desta and Gabriel; his sister, Claire and extended family in Bridgetown, NS. Doug was predeceased by his parents, Marjorie and Eugene Troop, and his eldest sister, Marjorie. Doug was born in Bridgetown, NS on March 3, 1928. He graduated from Dalhousie University (BSc) and Nova Scotia Technical College as a Civil Engineer. He had a long career of 37 years with CIL, in various locations including: Montreal, Beloeil, Nobel, Brownsburg, Labrador City, Calgary and Toronto. Summers were spent at the family cottage at Lake Louisa, Quebec. Upon retirement June and Doug settled in Brockville, Ontario, spending winters in Bradenton, Florida. He served as president of condo boards in both locations. Doug was an avid water colour painter, Honorary Member of painting group’s Thousand Islands TIFA. He enjoyed skiing, tennis, dance and group poker. In 2016 June and Doug moved to Edmonton to be closer to family. The family greatly appreciates the guidance and support of Dr. Robert Flook; professional services of the nurses and doctors at the Misericordia (7W) and Grey Nun’s (Unit 51) Hospitals, and health care providers at Devonshire for their compassionate care. Cremation has taken place, with urn interment to follow at a later date. If desired, Memorial donations may be made in Doug’s memory to the Alzheimer’s Society of Canada or other charity.
