Edward Briggs MacDonald

It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of our father Edward Briggs MacDonald at Norwood Care Centre surrounded by his loving family. Edward was born in Forres, Scotland and made his way to Canada in 1954. He married the love of his life Elizabeth in 1960 and started a family in Winnipeg. They had two children John (Judi) and Susan. They then made their way out west in 1973 and raised the family in Calgary where he enjoyed his trips to the mountains, hiking and picnics. They were married for forty-three wonderful years until Elizabeth’s sudden passing in 2003.

Edward enjoyed classic movies, dancing, music and travel especially back to Scotland. Scotland is where he had fond memories and visited with his beloved sister, Helen and his many nieces and nephews. He was always proud of his Scottish heritage and often shared stories with family and friends.

Edward loved being a grandfather to Brandon (Sheena) and Nicholas Melin, Coray (Melissa) and Jamie MacDonald, as well as being a great grandfather to Abigail, Naomi, Connor Melin and Benjamin MacDonald.

In later years, he was fortunate to share a love for travel with his special friend Lorrie. They had many great adventures and laughs together as the McMac’s. Edward enjoyed so many wonderful friendships including; Raymond Melin, Lance and Tammy Schneider, Jim and Betty Anne Gaynor

Ed was a wonderful model of kindness, strength, courage and always was a true gentleman with a sense of humor that brought a smile to any room.

He spent his final years residing in Drayton Valley where he could be closer to his family. Both of his parents, two brothers as well as his son-in-law Robb Melin predeceased Edward.

We would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Points West Living Drayton Valley and the Norwood Care Center in Edmonton for all their kindness and compassion. A private service will be held at a later date.
