

October 11,1950 – February 19, 2024
It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Eileen on February 19, 2024.
She is mourned by her Husband of 50 years Dave, children and spouses Jill and Léo Canuel and Danielle and Chad Matson, grandchildren Nyle and Clara Canuel and George and Olivia Matson, sister and brother-in-law Dorothy and Roger Giovanetto, sister Eva Heck, brother and sister-in-law Allan and Doreen Heck, sisters-in-law Ronon Wagar and Linda Heck, numerous nieces and nephews, grand nieces and nephews, great grand nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by parents Peter and Clara Heck, in-laws Howard and Nonie St. Peter, brothers and sisters-in-law Albert and Sophie Heck, Marcus and Adele Heck and Dennis Heck, nephew Trent Heck and her beloved dog Sammie.
Eileen grew up on the family farm near Bodo Alberta and later moved to Provost. She attended the University of Alberta where she attained her Bachelor of Commerce degree and met her future husband, Dave. This was followed by her CHRP designation. She spent her career at Shaw Pipe starting in Human Resources and later becoming their Labor Relations Manager. In retirement she enjoyed helping Jill with her wedding business.
Eileen and Dave recently celebrated their 50th anniversary. They lived their lives and spent their careers in Edmonton. They have a large active social group of friends, spending much time at Wizard Lake, travelling on many summer golf trips, winter vacations, Grey Cups and Curling events. Thursday night was Patio Night whether in the Summer or Winter. Many would gather for refreshments, food and good cheer.
Eileen enjoyed lake time with family and friends, scrapbooking, curling, golf, and Oiler and Edmonton Elks games. She loved to decorate the house and yard for Halloween, Christmas and Easter. She won several community awards. Her greatest joy was spending time with her 4 grandchildren.
Eileen was an active volunteer for the World Juniors Hockey and many Briar and Cup curling events hosted by the city. She was a member of the Balmoral Curling Society Board.
Eileen and Dave enjoyed travelling, throughout Canada and to Hawaii, Europe, the Mediterranean, the Caribbean and Mexico. Their last vacation was a Rocky Mountaineer train trip thru the Rockies with 3 other couples.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Hainstock’s Funeral Home and Crematorium, 9810 34 Avenue NW, Edmonton, on Friday, March 1, 2024 at 1:00 pm.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the Heart & Stroke Foundation, MS Canada and Autism Society Alberta will be appreciated.
