Erica is survived by her husband of 43 years, David, her son Steven (Megan), daughter Lindsay (Steven), parents Otto and Waltraut, and brothers Walter (Kim), and Alan. Erica will be lovingly remembered by her grandsons Ashton and Ethan as well as many nieces and nephews.
Erica was born in Sudbury, Ontario, but grew up in Edmonton in the Ottewell neighborhood. Early in her career, Erica worked for the Bank of Montreal before choosing to stay home when her children were young. It was during that time “Auntie Erica” also provided care for the children of many friends and family. When the kids entered school, she happily returned to work as an accounting clerk. She worked for a variety of employers, cultivating many lifelong friendships along the way until her disease forced her into an early retirement in 2017. She was an avid gardener, a talented seamstress and a devoted dog mom. But the role she embraced with the most enthusiasm was “Grandma”.
Erica was predeceased by her sister Val, and brother-in-law Bob. The family would like to thank Dr. Naveen Basappa and his team from the Cross Cancer Institute for their incredible support and care over the years. They would also like to thank the staff of the Edmonton General Palliative care unit (9Y) for her care in her final days.
Cremation has taken place and the family will hold a small private memorial service at this time. A celebration of her life will be held in the spring of 2022.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Kidney Cancer Canada or a charity of your choice.
