Erwin Richard Sieker

August 10, 1946May 15, 2020

“At first glance, life seems simple and uncomplicated. Viewed up close it appears as a series of brief colourful paint strokes without rhyme or reason: Life is happy. Life is sad. Life is high and life is low. Life is easy. Life is hard. Life is good. Life is bad. Love is won, love is lost. But it is only upon reflection, when your life is viewed at a distance, that you finally realize that every single paint stroke, every moment good, bad, or otherwise, has turned your life into a masterpiece.”

Erwin passed away quietly early morning, Friday, May 15, in Edmonton after a courageous battle against cancer. Erwin was a man who loved nature and enjoyed many adventures in the outdoors camping, hunting and fishing. He was a master craftsman and was known for his meticulous attention to detail in all his work, whether at home, in his yard or for his business. He was highly respected in his trades both by his colleagues and customers alike, and admired as a role model, mentor, and confidant to those he inspired by his example of high standards and strong work ethic.

Erwin was a man of humility, wisdom, principles, and of simple tastes. He had a wonderful sense of humour and loved sharing stories from his life. He recalled warm memories of growing up on the farm and playing as a child in the sand ridges.

Erwin will be fondly and lovingly remembered; his presence deeply missed by his loving wife of 52 years, Diane Sieker, his daughter Carla, daughter Lori (Les), step grandson Reese, sisters Lore and Trudi of Wembley, brother Robert (Dorothy) of Kelowna, and by his many family members and lifelong friends.

Erwin was predeceased by his son Kevin, and brothers Hans and Rudy.

The family would like to thank and gratefully acknowledge the Doctors and medical staff for their care: The Magrath Medical Clinic, The Cross Cancer Institute and Misericordia Hospital.

Diane, Lori and Carla please accept our deepest sympathy on the loss of your dear husband and father. It is never easy to lose a loved one but the pain that you feel now will eventually be taken over with the wonderful memories that you have of your life together. Even though we have not been in touch with your family for a long time we still have fond memories of getting together when our children were still very young. Life sometimes seems to get in the way and we lose touch with one another. Our thoughts and prayer are with you at this difficult time and may the peace of God give you strength to carry on. Aunt Diane, Lori & Carla
i have many fond memories of Uncle Erwin - hauling bales on the farm, on many days well into the night. He would not stop hauling bales as long as the combines were running Hunting on the banks of the Wapiti River and, in recent years, having long talks when we would see each other through our related work.
we talked about family, about hunting and about work.
He was extremely proud of you all.
He was always a great and honourable man, well respected by everyone that knew him. Fun to be around and hard working.
