Nan, I just recently learned that your father passed away a year ago.  I am so sorry not to have learned sooner.  He taught me Math in high school & was very smart, kind & truly a renaissance man with all his varied interests, especially plants & most especially Martagon lilies of which I am proud to say I have some.  You & all your family must miss him greatly.  All of Mr. Tarlton's students thought the world of him.

How can one sum up a life lived so full, except to say that if we could only touch half as many lives as you have, we will have lived.  You were a true inspiration uncle Fred

Fred was such a giving man.  He will be missed as a person, a gentleman, a teacher and a lily specialist.  He lives on in my garden.  He gave me many lilies and other plants when he and Helen moved out of their house.  I shall be forever grateful.

Fred was such an inspiration to so many people in every walk of life. Those of us who he mentored in the lily world have Fred to thank for the pioneer work he did with plant hybridizing. He was incredibly generous - sharing both his expert knowledge and plant material. He was considerate and kind beyond words and truly a remarkable man. Fred will be dearly missed.

I was a student at Memorial High School, Stony Plain from 1950-1952. I and my wife visited Fred in 2011. I enjoyed recounting details of the period I was at his school. His was a great influence on my education and my life which I will forever appreciate.  My heartfelt condolences to Nancy and the rest of the family
