Harold was born on his family farm in rural Steinbach, Manitoba on February 28, 1937. He worked and played hard with his brothers and friends in his youth with memories of rock picking (which we all attribute to those hard handshakes), tales of mischief in the hayloft, and many games of shinny on their own rink. In his teens he enjoyed the movies, hockey games, cruising the streets and country dances. During this time he met his future wife and married Janet on June 22, 1957. After living and working in Winnipeg, in July of 1958 they moved to Alberta where Harold got a job in the oil field. They started both their family and company in 1960. Dad was very ambitious, hard working and grew a successful business in the oilfield service industry. We liked to tease him he had 6 children. Darrell, Carnwood, Sharon, Wesley, Brian and Valerie.
He settled the family in Edmonton where they made many lifelong friends. Dad’s heart belonged to Alberta now and his youthful loyalty to the Leafs and Bombers was transplanted to the Oilers and Elks. Besides hockey Dad enjoyed curling, baseball, boating and later golf and bowling. Dad and mom were fortunate to travel a lot and see many parts of the world. Dad enjoyed being social: dancing, playing games, the casino, visiting, meeting up for coffee or dinner. He was playful with the grandchildren, known as a bit of a tease and for his boisterous laugh, and always up for a trip to DQ for ice cream.
