It is with great sadness that the family of Hazel Frances Sawyer announces her passing after a brief illness, on Sunday, August 30, 2020, at the age of 87 years. Hazel will be lovingly remembered by her husband of 64 years, Charles Donald (Don) Sawyer, and their children, Nadine (Dennis) Leenders, Frank (Lynn) Sawyer, Laura (Gordon Pugh) Sawyer, Kenneth (Alina Tousseeva) Sawyer, and Marlene (Kelly) Parish. Grandma Sawyer will also be fondly remembered by her 11 grandchildren, Gerry, Victor, Kyle, Kevin, Valerie, Alana, David, Liza, Connell, Garyn, and Phillip. Hazel was predeceased by her four sisters, Irene Nimmons, Ruby Wilson, Pearl Higgins and Doris Saunders.
Hazel grew up in the farming community of Didsbury, Alberta. She attended the University of Alberta and earned a BSc in Nursing in 1954. She married Don in 1956 and they resided in Edmonton, raising their five children. In 1981, after 4 of their children left home, they moved to a farm near Condor, Alberta. Hazel and Don farmed there for 28 years. They moved back to Edmonton in 2009 to be closer to family. She enjoyed playing bridge, curling, round and square dancing.
