It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Helen Cecelia (Cluett) Chafe. Helen left this earth to be with Jesus surrounded by the love of her family. She died peacefully at home two days after finding out her cancer had spread to her liver.
Helen was born in Frenchman’s Cove, NL. She was the second oldest of 13 children born to Chesley and Mary Cluett.
Along with her parents, Helen is preceded by many family members including her husband and father of her children, George Chafe and her second husband, Robert Vanloo.
Helen leaves behind her children, George, Marie, Debbie and Elizabeth; four siblings, Les, Mary, Marg and Alice. Helen will also be missed by her many nieces and nephews along with her many friends whose loves she touched.
Helen was a very strong, courageous, independent women, just a couple of days before she passed, Helen was shovelling the snow and exercising on her Wii. She always made people feel better and loved to tease and give people a hard time. Helen’s unwavering faith in God never faltered. She spent her life around children and owned her own daycare business. Helen could cheer up anyone with her charm and wit. She will be remembered and is already deeply missed.

A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Wednesday, January 7, 2026 at St. Edmund's Catholic Church, 13120 116 Street NW, Edmonton AB T5E 5H5 with interment to follow at Holy Cross Cemetery, 14611 Mark Messier Trail, Edmonton, AB T6V 1H4.
