It is with profound sadness that the family of Ian David Newel, of Edmonton, Alberta, announces his sudden passing on Saturday, June 17, 2017 at the age of 38 years. Ian is remembered with love by his high school sweetheart and wife of 12 years, Michelle; their son Brendan (Jackie), daughter Teagan, and fur daughter, Pepper Annie. Ian is survived by his loving parents, Patty and Dave Newel; his sister Kaitlin (Edward) McIntosh; mother and father-in-law, Aida and Fernando Hermoso; brother-in-law, Larry Hermoso; his aunt, Pat Newel; his uncle Mike (Tracy) Ratcliff; his cousins, whom he held very dear to his heart (Stefanie, Andy, Kenny, Sam and Bobby); his nieces and nephews, as well as numerous extended family members and friends. Ian was predeceased by his grandparents, Ray (Cora) Ratcliff and James Douglas (Eva) Newel.
Ian, the “Mill Woods King”, was a dedicated coach for the Mill Woods Snipers soccer team, a loyal employee of the City of Edmonton (DATS & ETS) who enjoyed working alongside his colleagues, and an unshakeable fan of Mike Tyson, Magic Johnson, the L.A. Lakers, the Oakland Raiders, and Notre Dame further reflecting his fighting Irish spirit. Above all else, Ian was a gentle giant and a devoted husband and father who relentlessly loved his family and friends.
