Ina was born on August 19, 1932, in the hamlet of Galahad, Alberta, the second of five children born to Walter and Margaret Kisch. Following her father’s return from overseas after World War II, the family relocated to Gainsford, Alberta, where he worked for the railroad. After his untimely passing, the family moved to Sangudo, Alberta. It was there that Ina met her future husband, Arthur Christman.
Ina later moved to Edmonton, where she worked as a nurse’s aide at the original Glenrose Hospital. During this time, she continued her courtship with Art, who was employed at Weston’s Bakery. Ina and Arthur were married on May 31, 1952, and made their home in Edmonton, where they spent the rest of their lives together.
Together, they raised three children: Bruce (Pat), Janice (Brian), and Shelly (Bill). Ina was a proud grandmother to seven grandchildren and a great-grandmother to twelve. She was predeceased by her parents, three brothers, and one sister, and is survived by her half-sister, Cecile Hansen. While raising her family, Ina worked part-time jobs, and later began a career with Statistics Canada.
Ina had a deep love for flowers and gardening, with gladiolus being her favorite. She enjoyed camping, especially in the mountains, and loved to travel. She made many trips to San Diego and Phoenix to visit her sister and other relatives. Ina also loved going to Las Vegas, where she played nickel and penny slot machines, she could play for hours on her $20 limit. She and Arthur also traveled to destinations including Hawaii, Nashville, the Panama Canal, and the Caribbean. Ina was known as a wonderful cook, and visitors could always count on a hearty, home-cooked meal. She was a gentle and patient person who took the time to listen and care for others.
The family extends their heartfelt thanks to Dr. Gee, as well as the nurses and staff at Lynnwood, for the compassionate care provided to Ina.
Ina will be deeply missed by her family and many friends.
A celebration of Ina’s life will be held at Memories Funeral Home, 13403 St. Albert Trail, Edmonton, Alberta, on Saturday, May 30, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. Cremation has been entrusted to Memories Funeral Home.
