

John is survived by his loving wife of 32 years, Shannon Dean; daughters, Jeri Noyes of Edmonton, and Jennifer (Glenn) Davis; grand-daughter, Morgan and grandson, Kai Davis of Calgary; sister Marlene Garner; brother-in-law and sister-in-law Bob Gregg & Karen Kutyn and sister-in-law, Caroline Meade. Also mourning his loss are extended family members and numerous dear friends.
John was predeceased by his parents John and Peggy Baumgartner; sister Grace Gibb; mother-in-law, Gail Moline; father-in-law, Jim Gregg; and brother-in-law, Tom Gregg.
Born and raised in Edmonton, John grew up in the Montrose community where he attended the neighboring schools. For the past 32 years John was a resident of Queen Alexandra community. John retired in 2005 from Edmonton Transit System. He had a love of sports, particularly the Oilers and Eskimos, travel, and gardening, John loved the winters he spent in Peoria, AZ and summer camping trips in Kananaskis.
John was a longtime volunteer with the Caritas Foundation, Spinal Cord Injury – Alberta, Edmonton’s Indy Car Race, Queen Alexandra Community League and numerous fundraising activities for several organizations.
A Celebration of Life will be held Friday, December 20th at 2:00 p.m. at Hainstock’s Funeral Home 9810-34 Ave, Edmonton AB T6E 6L1 officiated by Celebrant Yvonne Racine.
The family would like to thank the Drs., nurses and staff who provided exceptional care to John, especially family physician Dr. Ross Lindskoog, the staff of the Cirrhosis Care Clinic at the University of Alberta with Drs. Puneeta Tandon and Phillipe Sarlieve, and Nurse Practitioners Michelle Carbonneau & Maggie Jackson, and the Palliative Homecare Team.
