LEMISKI, John William

July 27, 1942 – October 14, 2020

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of John after a courageous battle with cancer. He is survived by his loving wife Sophia of 55 years, children Jacqueline (David), James and Jarrett (Norky), and grandchildren Matthew, Ryan and Maria.

John had two rewarding careers totaling 55 years of service; 30 years with Alberta Power in administration services and 25 years with Hainstock’s Funeral Home as a funeral director.

A true people person, John enjoyed spending time with his family and socializing with everyone. He will be especially remembered for his ability to recall numerous, upon numerous, jokes and stories.

A private funeral service will be held to commemorate John’s life with an interment at Holy Cross Cemetery and Mausoleum.

For those who wish to view the service, a livestream is available starting 10:50am on Monday October 19, 2020 at the following link:

Memorial donations may be made to the Cross Cancer Institute in Edmonton or the Edmonton Kidney Foundation.

Hello. My name is Brian Turnbull. I and my family wish to express our deepest sympathies to John Lemiski's family on this saddest of occasions. My family knew the Lemiski's when we lived in Vegreville and always knew them to be good neighbors and good hearted community members. On a personal note, Mr. Lemiski and I were both members of the same council of The Knights of Columbus, and was proud to consider him as a brother in that regard. My family's thoughts and prayers go out to John's wife, children and grandchildren. May he rest in God's eternal care.

My sincere condolences on the passing of John. He was a wonderful man and a fantastic co-worker. I called on him for assistance and he was always ready and willing to assist. Working with him on Funeral Services in Leduc, Edmonton or Vegreville was always a pleasure. His warm and welcoming smile as well as his humor were contagious I will miss that. Sophia and family I extend my deepest sympathy and prayers and may God bless you now and for the balance of time for your loss.

John was one of the most professional and caring funeral director college that I had the opportunity to work with. This was not just a second career for John, but a calling. I know, as many who worked with him knew that this was not a 9:00 to 5:00 job. John went home only when he knew he did his best to complete each and every detail requested. Sophie and to your family, sincere sympathy from Cindy and I. Rest In Peace our friend.

In my career with Alberta Power - ATCO I personally admired John's dedication and countless hours of hard work and perfectionism as Supervisor of Administrative Services in the East Division Vegreville and then in Customer Services Edmonton. I had the pleasure of being John's right hand gal and loved every minute. Throughout our years of working together I became very close to John and his family. Sophia, Jacqueline, James and Jarrett became like family to me. We worked hard and we laughed a lot too! John always had a way of making the job so much FUN! His jokes were the BEST and his sense of humour got us through many late nites. I truly have absolute admiration for John and his work ethic and he taught me well! I feel so blessed to have shared so many wonderful years with John as well as his family. He will always be in my thoughts and prayers and my deepest sympathy to the family. So very very sorry for your loss.
