Karen was born on March 4, 1963, to Harold and Muriel Trenaman in Lamont, AB. She was the youngest sibling of the Trenaman kids after Dianne, Jay, Garth, Todd, and Angus. For most of her childhood, Karen grew up in Vegreville, AB before moving to Lloydminster, AB in 1977.
While visiting Dianne in Vancouver, BC during her summer break in 1980, Karen met her husband, Ralph Dittmann. After graduating high school in 1981, Karen moved out to the lower mainland to be closer to her love, Ralph. The two married in 1982 and went on to have 3 children, Dennis, Erich, and Kerstie.
Karen and Ralph moved to Lloydminster, AB in 1985 where they welcomed Dennis, before moving to Bonnyville, AB in 1987 where both Erich and Kerstie were born. The 5 of them enjoyed small town life until Ralph’s work led the family to make the move to Edmonton, AB in 2001 where they have been settled since.
Karen’s family was always her top priority. She loved being a mom and was thrilled to become “Grammy” to Ethan, Avery, Aurora, and Owen. Outside of spending time with her family, Karen loved caring for her pets over the years including her cat Boo, spending time in the garden in which she would grow various veggies, fruits, and herbs, going on walks and bike rides, travelling around Canada and the rest of the world, paddling with the Breast Friends Dragon Boat Racing team, and all types of crafts such as sewing, scrapbooking, and cross-stitching.
Karen was a caring wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, aunt, and friend. Karen was a source of light and positivity to all of those who knew her.
Karen was predeceased by her father Harold, her brothers Angus and Garth, as well as her father-, mother-, and brother-in-law. She is survived by her husband Ralph, her children Dennis (Kyla), Erich, Kerstie (Jen), her grandchildren, Ethan, Avery, Aurora, and Owen, her mother Muriel, sister Dianne (George), brothers Jay (Carol), and Todd (April), sister-in-law Nancy (Trevor) and many nephews, nieces, and great nephews and nieces.
A private service will be held in her honour. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Breast Friends Dragon Boat Racing Team or to the Canadian Cancer Society, both organizations that Karen felt strongly in supporting.
