OBITUARY

Kenneth Joseph Doray

September 20, 1945May 16, 2020

On the afternoon of Saturday, May 16, 2020, Kenneth “Ken” J. Doray passed away suddenly at his residence in Edmonton, AB at the age of 74.

Left to cherish his memory are his two sons, Jason (Angie) Doray and Ryan Doray; brother Ted (Wendy) Doray; and numerous other relatives and many dear friends. Ken was born on September 20, 1945 to the late Joseph and Ethel Doray. He grew up in Edmonton and spent as most of his childhood on skates in hockey rinks chasing his dream of one day playing hockey in the NHL. Unfortunately, just before being drafted by the Detroit Red Wings, he incurred a career ending knee injury. Ken was a devoted husband who married the love of his life Nettie Doray (Reklow) on September 24, 1966. Together they had 2 sons, Jason and Ryan. Ken loved being a dad and he would do anything for his boys. He dedicated much of his son’s early years supporting their own passion for hockey and would even later volunteer his time coaching. Ken put a high value on education and held both an Agricultural and Business Degree. His first job was working at the Shur-Gain Feed Plant and many years later, in his 50’s, retired from his position as a banker with CIBC. Even after retirement Ken would go on to successfully complete a Marine Technician Course providing further reason to tinker in his garage and Chinese Cooking classes to avoid the chance of ordering bad take-out. Ken was often described as a man of few words. His life was simple, and he got the most pleasure while spending time with family and friends. He was also an avid outdoorsman who took great delight in any activity that involved being outside. Among his favorite activities were camping, fishing, hunting, a round of golf, and enjoying a fire on his back patio. Ken had a deep love for dogs. Ken never met a dog he did not like but met many that he loved. Ken owned many dogs over his lifetime and the bond he built with them was like no other. He always welcomed dogs into his world and his lap was always open for cuddles. Ken was predeceased by his parents, Joseph and Ethel Doray; his loving wife, Nettie Doray; and a brother, Gerald Doray.

A private family celebration of Ken’s life will be held at Memories Funeral home on Friday, May 22, 2020 at 1:00 PM. To join the family and view the service online please go to https://www.oneroomstreaming.com/view/authorise.php?k=159003651560086

I have fond memories of Ken from our hunting trips in Northern Alberta. Always a gentleman and a class guy, he will be missed.

Jason & Ryan

We were so sorry to hear of your Dad’s passing. We know he had health issues over the past few years but it was still a shock to hear that he was gone. I am writing this for Al and myself as Al and Kris left this morning to go fishing and have not returned yet. I know your Dad would understand. I watched the on-line service and it was beautiful. I shed a tear when they put your Dad’s fishing rod in the casket. We would love to get an email from one or both of you so we can stay in touch. Maybe when we get up to see the kids, we can stop over for a coffee. Hugs to both of you.

Jason and Ryan, Although there are no words that will give you any comfort at this time, please know that you both are in our thoughts and prayers. When your heart quits making noise, your memories will become smiles and not as many tears.

Love,
Lee, Terry and Rhiannon
