It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Hugh Kenzie (Ken) McNeill on Monday April 14th, 2025. Ken was born in Edmonton, Alberta and grew up in Calgary, Alberta. Kenzie and his beloved wife, Joy, started their 61 year marriage in Calgary. At the time, Kenzie worked for Eaton’s Department Store and was transferred to Edmonton shortly after the birth of their second son. As their family grew Joy & Ken built a home and put down roots in Edmonton, making lifelong friends in their neighbours and church community.
Prior to his retirement, Kenzie worked for the Alberta Government, Public Works division serving as a Building Superintendent for many Government buildings. In his retirement years he developed a great love of cooking, making many wonderful meals for his family to enjoy.
During the last years of his life, Kenzie was a resident at Bedford Village where he developed a wonderful group of new friends that he enjoyed sharing meals with.
Kenzie leaves to mourn his children Dave (Hazel), Doug (Gwen), Don (Karen), Cathy and Dean (Jennifer), 12 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and a circle of dear friends.
Predeceased by his loving wife Joy, his parents Hugh and Hazel McNeill, his sister Margaret (Peggy) and his brother-in-law Don McTeer, Kenzie will be dearly missed by all who were fortunate enough to have known him.
A celebration of Kenzie’s life will be held on Tuesday April 29th, 2025 at 1:00 at Grace United Church (6215 – 104 Avenue NW Edmonton, AB).
