He is survived by his loving wife, Jeannette; daughter, Lauren (Tyson); grandchildren, Max and Emma; brother, Dan (Brenda); and many other cherished family members and friends.
Kerry was born in Edmonton in 1951, the second son of Ted and Ione Hart. He was a proud resident of Edmonton his entire life.
After graduating from the University of Alberta Faculty of Law in 1975, Kerry practiced law until his retirement in 2017. Following many years in private practice, he challenged himself with a major career shift, spending the final decade of his legal career as a Crown Prosecutor doing work he truly loved. Kerry dedicated hundreds of volunteer hours to legal education and service to the profession. He was widely respected for the excellence of his work and admired for his strong ethical compass, advocacy skills, and willingness to provide mentorship.
Kerry was a devoted husband and proud father who cherished time with his family. Some of the happiest moments of his later life were spent entertaining his grandchildren. He loved to downhill ski and enjoyed ski trips to many different mountain resorts with family and friends. He was a passionate supporter of the Edmonton Elks (formerly Eskimos) football club, and found joy in golfing, curling, “tinkering”, biking, and baking. He was famous for his waffles and "Grampa cookies."
In his retirement, Kerry discovered a passion for painting. He was a truly gifted artist. Inspired by Bob Ross, he created many impressive works of art, each one a great source of pride and joy.
His love of travel took him to many destinations around the world throughout his life. On his most recent European trip in the fall of 2024, he and Jeannette enjoyed two weeks travelling through Belgium, Amsterdam, and Berlin. His final vacation was a relaxing week in Mexico this past January, enjoying the sunshine and ocean with Jeannette, Lauren, Tyson, Max, and Emma.
Kerry will be remembered for his easy conversation, calm presence, kind heart, sense of humour, quick wit, and wisdom. We will always treasure the years we shared with this wonderful man. He will be missed and forever in our hearts.
A heartfelt thank you to the exceptional staff at the Royal Alexandra Hospital and the Mazenkowski Heart Institute who were involved in Kerry’s care.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, May 3, 2025 at 1:00 p.m. at The Northeast River Valley Park Event Centre (903 153 Avenue NE, Edmonton). All are welcome. Please bring your stories and memories of Kerry.
