As sure as stars are in the sky
I'm gonna see when it comes to glory
And I'll see you, I'll see you on the other side
-See you on the other side, by Ozzy Osbourne
It is with a broken heart we announce the passing of Kevin Gregory Pengelly.
Kevin passed away suddenly, doing what he loved, playing soccer with friends on June 24, 2022.
Kevin has shared his passion for the things he loved with all those around him. Fishing, Woodworking, cooking from scratch and especially auditing.
Kevin loved to coach kids in sports. He started by coaching our own and quickly found a passion for sharing his love of the game with a new generation. He has coached soccer, curling, and even helped out with football. After each practice he would come home and talk about each child on the team, their successes, and the areas he felt he needed to spend more time teaching. He would never hesitate to take the little ones by the hand and run around on the field with them. He would spend his evenings making plans for drills and ensure the kids had fun, especially the ones that did not have an instant appreciation for the game.
Kevin himself loved to play sports. He joined curling in high school, then started again as an adult. He has made some amazing friends through curling and it always brought him so much joy. Kevin grew up playing soccer. He loved to play and would always go all in. This lead to more than one trip to the hospital with sprains and breaks. He stopped playing recently as he kept getting injured but was excited to be going back now that his team was going to be with the older crowd and he figured less chance of getting hurt.
Kevin loves the outdoors. Nothing made him happier than going out in the boat, fishing, hiking, going for bike rides, golfing, cross country skiing, and downhill skiing, with his entire family in tow!
Kevin enjoyed his woodworking which resulted in many handmade furniture pieces in our own home.
Professionally, Kevin was also an advocate and voice for his profession. Kevin was recently the President/Director Audit Committee for the Institute of Internal Auditors-Edmonton Chapter and was currently holding position of Secretary.
Kevin is survived by his wife, Irene and his three children Emmett (12), Luke (10) and Vanessa (7). He is also survived by his loving parents, Mary Ann and Charles, Mother and Father in law, Patricia and Victor Loewen. His brothers Chris(April) and Shane(Rosa), his sister Ann-Marie(Dan), his niece Sarah, nephew David, nephew Oliver, aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.
A Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at Hainstock's Funeral Home, 9810 34 Avenue, Edmonton AB on Friday, July 8, 2022 followed by the Funeral Service at 11:00a.m. Interment to follow at Rosehill Cemetery, 1605 - 141 Street SW, Edmonton AB.
