A MESSAGE FROM THE FAMILY
Len was born in Saint John NB. He grew up in Fort William ON (now Thunder Bay). After high school, Len joined the Bank of Montreal. He was with BMO in Selkirk MB when Len and Jo-Anne met in 1958. It was love at first sight. They married June 27, 1959. With BMO, Len and Jo-Anne lived in Selkirk, Morden MB, Swan River MB and Fort William. Once in Fort William, Len became employed with IDB/FBDB (now BDC). With FBDB, Len and Jo-Anne lived in Fort William, Saskatoon, Grande Prairie, Kenora ON, back to Grande Prairie, Edmonton and then Winnipeg. Len progressed at FBDB to senior management roles with increasing responsibility. After Len was bought out by FBDB in 1988, he and Jo-Anne moved back to Edmonton. Len worked for NorthWest Trust, Capital City Savings and Canadian Western Bank, as well as his own consulting business. He retired in his mid-60's. Len was a highly regarded banker. Len and Jo-Anne have 3 children. Len was very involved with his children, and was very proud of them. He also loved their spouses. There is nothing he would not have done for any of them. Jo-Anne's mother Mary lived with the family until 1971 when she moved to Winnipeg. Len had a very close relationship with his mother-in-law, Mary. She was the mother Len never had. Jo-Anne is very proud of the way Len was so kind to her mother. Len and Jo-Anne have 6 grandchildren. He spent much quality time with them. Each of them can remember how he played games and cards with them, as well as Grandpa's silly jokes. Mostly, though, they remember how much he loved them. Len was a 4-time cancer survivor. However, over the past few years, progressive dementia took away Len's independence and ability to care for himself. Jo-Anne provided Len's care in a superhuman manner until Len became too ill. He was admitted to hospital in June 2020, then long term care in August 2020. The family is grateful to Shepherd's Care Millwoods for the compassionate care provided. Jo-Anne was kissing Len's forehead and caressing him when he took his last breath. It is only fitting they were together at the moment he passed. Their love story will continue forever.
