She passed away peacefully at the age of 95, on Thursday, December 2, 2021 in St. Albert, Alberta after a full and wonderful life. She was born on May 13, 1926 to Henry Elmer Levang and Inga Ramm. She was preceded in death by her loving husband Carl Henry Nilson, her brother Gerald (Valna) Levang and her parents.
Loreen grew up on her family’s farm near Edberg, Alberta with four brothers and two sisters. They were a close knit clan who worked hard and enjoyed life. Loreen’s dad Henry loved music & played fiddle in a band. He shared that love with his wife & children. Loreen learned to play piano by ear and she and her dad enjoyed playing together whenever they could. Many of Loreen’s memories of her early life were centered around music, singing, and going to local dances. Music and dancing remained some of her favourite things throughout her life. Loreen was the youngest of the girls and after her mother’s passing in 1945, she stayed back on the farm to look after her Dad and three younger brothers, Brian, Ronnie and Gordie until she was 22 and left home for the big city.
Loreen worked in Jasper for a few summers and in 1954 she moved to Edmonton with her cousin Esther Ramm where she started a job with Woodward’s. After many adventures with Esther, she met Henry and as the story goes, she locked him in a closet until he promised to marry her. Lucky for him. Loreen and Henry married on November 7, 1956, and bought their first home in Edmonton in 1957 where they raised their two children, Janice and Lee.
Loreen and Henry retired and moved out of the big city to Camrose in 1984. Loreen held many part time jobs over the years but the majority of her working life was spent sewing custom drapery and it didn’t take her long to find a new job in Camrose. Never one to sit around, she sewed beautiful custom drapery until she was 72.
Henry passed away in 1996 and Loreen stayed in their house in Camrose. She loved Camrose, loved her home and loved her many close friends. She continued to do the things she enjoyed most - looking after her family (which by this time included grandkids), baking her famous pies, cookies, buns, and cinnamon buns and always loved sharing a cup of coffee and a visit with her friends. In her later years she moved to Spruce Grove and then St. Albert where she could be closer to her family.
Loreen is survived by her daughter Janice, her son Lee, granddaughter Erin (Trevor) Seaman, grandson Carson (Jenny) Renne, granddaughter Ashley (Darnell) Frostad, and seven great grandchildren, Troy, Avery, Cole, Jake, Max, Bo and Piper. She is also survived by her sister Helen Mutchler, her sister Norma Martin, her brother Brian (Maxine) Levang, her brother Ron (Coral) Levang and her brother Gordon (Donna) Levang. She also leaves behind many, many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Loreen was beloved by all who knew her and will be dearly missed. May she rest peacefully with her loved ones gone before her.
