

On April 25, 2023, Lorna Belle Fontaine (nee Hager), passed away from natural causes. Left to mourn is her husband of 58 years, Maurice; her son, Maurie (Jenifer); grandsons, Lukas and Mitchell; her siblings and their spouses, Dawn Paulgaard, Murray & Luc Maria Hager, Grant & Denise Hager, Dean & Lindy Hager, Marcia Hicks, and Judy & Urb Laboucane, as well as many extended family and friends. Lorna was predeceased by her parents, Robert & Wanda Hager, sisters Myrna & Joan, brother Craig, and daughter Corinne. On March 14, 1942, Lorna was born into a large farming family near Provost, Alberta, where she learned the value of family, hard work and community. In 1963 she ventured to Edmonton to continue her education, and begin her career. On her journey she met her lifelong friend, Jackie Suguira, a coworker from Naramata Center and roommate for several years. Lorna and Maurice met while working at The Department of Lands and Forests, and they married in August of 1964. Following the birth of Maurie and Corinne, many happy years were enjoyed with family and friends at home, on the farm, and at their cabin. Lorna loved gardening, knitting, singing while Maurice or the kids played piano and returning to Naramata Center each summer. In 1986, Lorna graduated from the Early Childhood Program at Grant MacEwan College. This led to a fulfilling career, where she shared her talents and love at Castledowns Daycare Society, Caernarvon Daycare, Alberta Vocational College, and finally, Canada Place Child Development Center, until her retirement in 2003. She will be missed by many.
A visitation will be held prior to the funeral at Memories Funeral Home, 13403 St. Albert Trail, Edmonton, Alberta on Friday, May 12, 2023 from 12:00 – 1:00 pm.
A funeral to celebrate Lorna’s life will take place at Memories Funeral Home, 13403 St. Albert Trail, Edmonton, Alberta on Friday, May 12, 2023 at 1:00 p.m. with a reception to follow.
