It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Luba (Lou) Kneller on June 22, 2022 after a courageous battle with cancer. She was 88 years old.
Lou was one of 6 children born to Ukrainian immigrants, who arrived in Canada in the summer of 1929. Lou was born on the homestead near Bloomsbury, Alberta on October 19, 1933. She learned the value of hard work early, watching her parents and older brothers as they built a life through the depression years. As a young woman, she eventually moved to Edmonton to further her education enrolling in and completing business and seamstress courses. During that time, she met and married Ed Kneller (1956) and eventually had a family of her own, 1 daughter and 2 sons. She was an amazing lady: a wonderful daughter, sister, auntie, mother, grandmother and “Gigi", seamstress, gardener, crafter, and volunteer in Dovercourt Community, Meals on Wheels, and the United Church Women to name a few. A dear friend to so many; with her family always at the centre of her life. She travelled extensively with friends and enjoyed many trips with her sons and daughter and their families.
Lou was predeceased by her husband, Ed, son, Don, parents, Efym and Margarita Zuk, brothers, Bill, Mike, Walter, infant sister, Helen and grandson, Michael. She is survived by her sister Marguerite (Reg), daughter, Betty (Mark) son, Doug (Melody), daughter in law Pat, 6 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews who fondly called her “Auntie Lou”. She will be dearly missed by her family and many friends, who stayed connected and sent many good wishes during her illness.
We wish to thank the Palliative Care team, Dr. Sam Fanous and the wonderful staff at Pilgrims Hospice who cared for Luba during her final days.
A funeral service to honour Luba’s life will be held on Thursday, July 7, 2022 at 2:00 PM at Memories Funeral Home, 13403 St Albert Trail Edmonton, Alberta. A private family interment to follow.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Luba’s memory are welcomed at Pilgrims Hospice (Roozen Family Hospice Centre) www.pilgrimshospice.com.
