Lucy Vera Mutual

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of Lucy Mutual, a cherished mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, on December 25, 2023, at the age of 95 in Edmonton, Alberta. Lucy leaves behind a legacy of love and warmth that touched the lives of all who knew her.

Survived by her daughter Monica (Lubos Berco) of Calgary, son Christopher (Leah) of Honolulu, eight grandchildren—Jordan, Alycia, Evan, Dominique, Fox, Annika, Paris, and Zoe—and great-grandchild Violet, Lucy's family was the center of her world. She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Lary Mutual, and sons William and Larry Jr., as well as her parents, Peter and Annie Olekshy, and sisters Gwen Goshko and Nadia Thomas.

Lucy's journey began in the Leduc district, growing up on a farm in the Sprucedale district. Fueled by a passion for education, she left the farm early to pursue academic endeavors in Edmonton. Lucy earned a degree in Sciences at the University of Alberta before furthering her studies in the United States, obtaining a diploma in laboratory sciences. Returning to Edmonton, she worked at the UofA Hospital until the time she started her family.

Her life took a beautiful turn when she married the love of her life, Larry Mutual. Together, they built a life filled with love, family, and adventure - travelling, camping, and celebrating every milestone together. Lucy's interests were as diverse as her experiences, ranging from playing bridge and cooking to enjoying hockey, sewing, and reading. However, her true passion lay in exploring the world, and Lucy travelled extensively across five continents, relishing the beauty of diverse cultures, from China to the Middle East and her cherished Hawaii.

Lucy's zest for life extended beyond her pursuits; she was a pillar of strength and support for her family and friends. Known for her sensible advice, she lived by example, always embracing life to the fullest and generously sharing her joy with others. Throughout her many years, Lucy continued to touch hearts by selflessly helping those around her, leaving an indelible mark of love, style, wisdom, and integrity.

Lucy Mutual will be deeply missed, but her spirit will live on in the memories of those fortunate enough to have known her. May she rest in peace, surrounded by the love she so freely gave during her remarkable journey through life.
