On April 18, 2019, Marianne Schmidt of Edmonton passed away peacefully after living to almost 90 years.
Marianne was predeceased by her beloved husband, Hans, in May 2005.
Born September 1, 1929 in Bremen, Germany they immigrated to Canada in 1956. Marianne's early career was spent working at the local Chamber of Commerce in Bremen and the latter as a homemaker and bookkeeper. She and Hans were known to feed her children's friends and their house was always open to all. It made her iced tea and potato salad famous in the neighbourhood.
The beloved Mother and Oma is survived by her daughter, Sabine (Joe Stratton) of Langley, BC; son Ralf (Kathleen Schmidt), and their sons Graeme and Cameron; and son Rudy (Dalyce Feir). Numerous relatives are left behind in Germany and Switzerland, including hers isters, Gertrude Borchers and Charlotte Budde. An extended stay visitor was her niece, Ursula Runge (Daughter Manuela). In Canada she leaves her nephews, Michael, Mark, and Andre Hoffmann (daughters, Michelle and Nicole).
The family sincerely appreciates the special care given to our Mother by Dr. Christopher Gee and the many home care ladies who looked after her in recent years.
At the request of Marianne, there will be no services. After cremation, a private family service will be held in the future.
