On the morning of February 26, 2026 at the age of 91 years, Martha peacefully passed into the arms of her Saviour Jesus Christ. Even though we deeply mourn her passing, we find comfort in Him.
Martha was born on October 3rd, 1934 in Lavesta, Alberta to parents Anna (Scheshefsky) and Eric Schultz. In 1936, ten days after her brother Fred was born, their mother Anna passed away at 21 years of age. Eric remarried in late 1936 to Hertha Stoik. In Hertha, he found a wife and a mother for Martha and Fred. Eric and Hertha were blessed with three more children; Irene, Erwin and Hilda. Martha grew up in Manola, Alberta and moved to Edmonton in 1951.
In 1955, at a church convention, Martha met George, who became the love of her life and they married in June 1956. Together they lived 54 harmonious years in Edmonton where God was the center of their marriage, family and home, and where they raised their two daughters Elaine and Lorna-May.
In her teens, Martha committed her life to the Lord. She loved Jesus with all her heart and modelled this in her actions and how she interacted with people. Martha’s love language was hospitality. Martha and George often had friends and family stay with them for extended visits. She loved cooking, baking, preserving and having company. Martha’s baking specialties were pies, cakes (Torten), cinnamon and orange buns. Martha liked trying out new recipes for her family, using new cookbooks, recipes from The Journal, and learning to cook traditional favorites from George’s childhood. She would often bake pies for seniors’ meetings at church and was keen to share her cinnamon and orange buns with family and friends. George would garden; plant and harvest and Martha turned this bounty into tasty pickles and jams. Many people were gifted jars of her delicious jams; apricot, sour cherry and raspberry. Martha also sewed. She made clothes for herself and her daughters, often matching outfits.
Martha was a prolific crocheter. During lunch hours at work, she made many delicate doilies, and later Barbie doll clothes for her girls. Martha was known for being kind, friendly, genuine, calm, forgiving and generous with her time. Up to the age of 83 years young, Martha gave charitably of her time, volunteering at VBS, Church meetings and billeting many visitors. Martha’s Greeting Card Ministry was extensive – Birthday cards and Sympathy cards to many friends across the miles, reconnecting with people on their special Birthday to bless them and sending Condolence cards when they had a loss. Martha and George loved travelling. Together they took many trips: Germany, Mexico, Hawaii, Europe, cruises and attended many church conventions in Canada and the USA. Martha’s travelling bug continued with her daughters. She was always the first one to have her suitcase packed.
Martha will be remembered for her joyful spirit and her love for God’s word.
Deeply mourning the sweetest mom ever, are daughters Elaine and Lorna-May and Martha’s extra families; Carmen and Darin with Natasha, Naomi (Josh) and Abigail; Sherry, Mario and Mike.
Also mourning her loss deeply are her brother Fred Schultz, sisters Irene Grenke and Hilda Gutzmann, sisters-in-law and brother-in-law and her many nieces and nephews in Canada and Germany, church family and many friends.
She was preceded in death by her devoted husband and soulmate of 54 years, George in 2010; Brother Erwin; Parents, Anna, Eric and loving Stepmom Hertha.
And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose. Romans 8:28
