

Martin was born in Aberdeen, Scotland, and moved to Canada at the age of 10, alongside siblings Ian, Brian, and Yvette, and his parents, Martin Sr. and Elizabeth.
He earned his Bachelor of Science degree from McMaster University and his PhD in Chemistry from the University of Alberta.
At the University of Alberta, he served as a Professor of Chemistry and Chair of the Department of Chemistry and firmly believed in the importance of research and science in shaping a better future.
He had an endless passion for the natural world, birdwatching, photography, and cycling.
He will be greatly missed by his wife of 55 years, Gail; his sons Grahaeme (Morgane), Geoff, and Andrew; his grandchildren, Charlie and Madeleine; and countless other friends and family.
A memorial service will be held at Hainstock's Funeral Home & Crematorium, 9810 34 Ave NW, Edmonton, on April 9 at 2:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to the MS Society of Canada or the Mazankowski Alberta Heart Institute.
