Mom was born on May 6, 1930 to Metro and Anne Dobko (Turgeon) and grew up on the family farm near Calmar, Alberta along with her 6 siblings. After marrying our dad, Leslie Schultz, in 1953 they moved many times throughout Alberta and BC living the oilpatch lifestyle while growing their family of five children. After moving to Grande Prairie in 1967 Mom began working outside the home and her greatest pride was working as a meat wrapper for IGA. Mom’s hard work ethics and outgoing personality suited her work and she enjoyed sharing many stories of her work experiences and the friends she made along the way. After settling in Clairmont for the next 12 years, and then a move to Winfield BC, Mom finally returned to Edmonton in 1988 to care for her elderly parents where she resided until her passing.
Mom was a very social person and could strike up a conversation with anyone, anywhere. She was a wonderful cook who could unbelievably stretch a meal to feed many, a talented crocheter, and an accomplished ten-pin bowler right into her 80’s (she was very proud of that!). She also was so proud to have had the opportunity to travel to many destinations including Malaysia, Italy, Malta and numerous US states. But her greatest love was for her family, always ready to welcome new additions to the fold and was always eager to talk about all of us and our achievements (sometimes in excess!)
Mom is survived by her children, Serge (Joann), Curtis, Sylvia (Norm) van Polen, Dean (Jackie); daughter-in-law, Maralee Schultz and their families including 19 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren; brother, Nestor Dobko (Eleanor); sisters-in-law, Anne Dobko, Pat Dobko, Diane Hauser, Anne Schultz; brother-in-law, Harold Schultz and their families.
Mom was predeceased by our father, Leslie Schultz; her son, Allen; parents, Metro and Anne Dobko; parents-in-law, Adolph and Molly Schultz; brothers, Mike Dobko, Ed Dobko, Serge Dobko; sisters, Elizabeth Maik, Evelyn Veech; infant sister, Millicent; sister-in-law, Mary Schultz; and brothers-in-law, Bill Maik, Dave Veech, Burnell Schultz, Allan Hauser.
A Celebration of Life for Mildred Schultz will be held at Hainstock's Funeral Home and Crematorium, 9810-34th Avenue, Edmonton, AB on Saturday, June 3, 2023 at 1:00 pm.
Mom, we love you and we will miss you.
Rest In Peace.
