Born in Montreal on May 20, 1946, Nancy was the first-born child to Fred & Norah Sleep, and older sister to Tom, Leslie, and Mike. Nancy’s passion for family tradition and hockey stemmed from the examples set by her parents.
After meeting her husband Bob in Winnipeg in 1963, they got married on July 1, 1967. Their journey led them through Ontario, Manitoba, and eventually to Beaumont where they would raise their three kids and become dedicated members of the community. Nancy was involved in minor hockey, minor soccer and a part of the group that brought Junior Hockey to Beaumont through the formation of the Beaumont Chiefs. She was a strong business woman, working her way up the ranks of the home building business and selling many homes in her growing community. Nancy’s sense of humour and wit were unparalleled. Not only she was known as the Wordle Queen, she was your best phone-a-friend in any trivia competition.
Family always came first. Nancy was a proud, hands on parent, attending her kids sporting events, concerts, birthday parties, and events. Nancy’s love for family grew even more with the arrival of each of her grandkids. Whether she was helping with homework assignments, baking favourite treats, planting in the garden, watching theatre productions, cheering on hockey, lacrosse, gymnastics, rugby or chauffeuring the grandkids to and from events, her love and pride was unmatched.
Nancy was reunited with those who preceded her in death: her loving husband of 56 years Bob, her parents Fred & Norah, and her brothers Mike and Tom. Nancy’s legacy lives on through her children Steven & Keri, Stacey & Gilles (Amyotte), Nathan & Tara, and her beloved fantastic five grandkids, Patrick, Nathan, Janelle, Nicholas, and Matthew, whose second home was her home and where “freeloaders” were the best nights.
Nancy leaves her family to continue her legacy of love and community, and will be celebrated on April 20th at the Beaumont Community Centre located at 5204- 50 Avenue from 2:00-4:00. In lieu of flowers, please kindly donate to the Stollery Children’s Hospital Foundation.
