

In the early hours of May 18, 2025 Pete passed away peacefully in Calgary at 100 years old. Pete was born in Opdam in the Netherlands to Nicolaas and Christina Flipsen in May 1925. Pete served in the Dutch army in Indonesia from 1947 to 1950. He emigrated to Canada with his wife Klazina and eldest son Eduard in 1955 and settled in Edmonton. He joined the International Brotherhood of Boilermakers, Iron Ship Builders, Blacksmiths, Forgers, and Helpers in 1959. After completing his apprenticeship, he became a journeyman boilermaker, and remained a proud union member for more than 65 years. He was very active in Edmonton’s Dutch Canadian club for many years. He was an avid DIYer, completing many home renovation projects, and he frequently shared his talents with others. He was a devoted fan of the Edmonton Oilers. Pete is preceded in death by his parents, his siblings, his wife of 39 years Klazina, and by his children Eduard, Franciscus, and Klazina. He is survived by his children Peter and Christiana, his grandchildren Anthony (Tony) and Mellisa, his step-grandchildren Crystal and Shane, several great-grandchildren and several great-great- grandchildren.
Funeral Services will be held on Thursday May 29, 2025 at 2:00 PM at Memories Funeral Home & Crematorium 13403-44 Avenue, Edmonton, AB with Rev Jim Corrigan Officiating. Interment to follow in Northern Light Cemetery, Edmonton, AB.
