It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Robert (Bob) Oliver Grieve of Edmonton on August 10, 2025 in his 98th year. Bob was predeceased by his loving wife Reta in 2023 and is survived by his children: Jim (Brenda) of Alberta, Jennifer (Jim) of Ontario, and Bill (Doreen) of Texas. Bob was a much beloved grandfather to six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Bob was born in Ingersoll, Ontario on November 10th, 1927. He grew up in southern Ontario and spent many summers enjoying cottage life with family in Port Burwell on the shores of Lake Erie. He graduated with an Honours Science degree in Geology in 1949 from the University of Western Ontario and a M.Sc. in Geology from the University of Michigan in 1951.
Upon graduation, Bob married his high school sweetheart Reta (nee Amos). He began a lifelong and successful career with Imperial Oil in the 1950s in south western Ontario and then followed the oil patches to Alberta, BC and Texas. With Imperial Oil, Bob served as Chief Geologist and eventually as Exploration Manager for frontier areas such as the Beaufort Sea and the east coast of Canada. Throughout all the moves, Bob and Reta developed everlasting friendships with those they met. Bob retired in Calgary and he and Reta spent many years near friends and loved travelling, skiing, fishing, sailing and golfing. Bob and Reta golfed at the Willow Park Golf Club, and both proudly recorded holes-in-one. Summer trips to Port Burwell continued until 2016. Bob skied well into his 80s helping his grandchildren learn to love the alpine sporting life.
Bob and Reta eventually relocated to Edmonton to be closer to family. Bob will be remembered for his quiet reserve and witty sense of humour.
"Stay out of trouble Dad... but trouble is more fun."
The family would like to express their thanks to the staff at Rutherford Heights and Grey Nuns Hospital making Bob's final years relaxing and comfortable.
As per Bob's wishes there will be no funeral
