Ronald Louie Wells, known to all who loved him simply as Ron, passed away surrounded by his loving family on January 19, 2026, after a courageous battle with cancer. He is survived by his brothers Ken (Joanne), David (Diane), Daniel (Suzette), and Alan (Pam), brother-in-laws Mike Daigle and Ron Carey as well as many nieces, nephews, in-laws, extended family members, and countless friends who were lucky enough to be touched by his life. Ron was predeceased by his parents, Marjorie and Wilfred Wells; his brothers John, Raymond (Louise - first wife, Jean - second wife) as well as Rod and his sisters Pam and Shelley.
Ron was born on December 3, 1950, in Winnipeg, Manitoba. He spent his first years in Winnipeg, eventually moving to Shilo, Manitoba until graduation from high school. Ron came from a lively household where the family can often share unlimited stories of chaos. He was one of ten children, sharing an extra special bond with his identical twin brother, Raymond. After high school, Ron pursued post secondary education, graduating as a Chartered Accountant in 1977, and worked in private practice for many years before settling in Brandon, Manitoba, where he worked for the Government of Manitoba starting in 1990, until retirement in 2011. His professionalism, integrity, and kindness earned him respect both personally and professionally throughout his career. Ron was married to the love of his life, Carol, sharing 48 years of marriage. He was a proud and loving father to his daughters, Amanda and Ashley. Ashley and her husband, Grant, gave him his two grandsons Gavin and Griffin, which he often referred to as his most precious gifts. Spending time with the boys gave him some of the greatest happiness until the very end. Ron lived life to the fullest. You would especially know when Ron was in the room as he was always known for his loud and bright wardrobe choices. He loved golf, hot sunshine, vacations, being "Mr. Fix-it" and a good game of cards. But more than anything, he loved humor, helping others and being with his family. Giving back to his community was a defining part of Ron’s life. During his time in Brandon, he was a proud member of the Brandon Sunrise Rotary Club, serving as president more than once. He helped initiate and co-chair the Brandon Cerebral Palsy Stationary Bike Race for many years, and was also President of the Brandon Troyanda School of Ukrainian dance where he helped initiate the still successful bi-annual Ukrainian Dance Festival in Brandon. Ron was generous, loyal, quick-witted and always gave his unwavering support to everyone he knew. He was the kind of person who would give you the shirt off his back.
The family would like to thank the staff of Foyer Lacombe for Ron's care in his final months.
A celebration of Ron’s life will be held at Memories Funeral Home, 13403 St. Albert Trail Edmonton, AB on Thursday, February 12, 2026 at 2:00 pm. We ask that to honour Ron and his lively and vibrant spirit, you come wearing your brightest and boldest shirt.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Ron’s memory can be made directly to Foyer Lacombe in St. Albert or to the Cerebral Palsy Association of Manitoba (Westman Chapter).
