With deep love and profound sadness, the family of Rudi Schmidt announces his passing on November 28, 2025, at the age of 79. Rudi was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend whose warmth and generosity touched everyone who knew him.
Rudi is survived by his beloved wife of 50 years, Francoise. He leaves behind his cherished children: Jennifer (Cam), Katherine (Jay), Andrew (Alanna), and Michael (Meghan). Rudi was endlessly proud of his grandchildren—Taylor (Isaac), Madisyn (Ivy), Stephanie, Franki (Richard) and Marli and great grandchildren - Olivia and Lincoln. He is also lovingly remembered by his brother Willi (Connie), nieces Laurie and Wendy, nephew Roland (Erin), as well as many extended family members and friends.
Rudi was an avid sports fan who cheered passionately for many sport teams including bowling, soccer, curling, hockey and most recently the Toronto Blue Jays. Above all, Rudi was profoundly family oriented. His happiest moments were spent surrounded by the people he loved—cheering on his grandchildren, sharing stories, offering guidance, and creating memories that will be treasured forever.
A Celebration of Rudi’s Life will be held on Wednesday, December 10, 2025, at 2:00 p.m. at Hainstock’s Funeral Home, 9810 – 34 Avenue NW, Edmonton.
Rudi donated to many charities. In honor of Rudi’s generous spirit, and in lieu of flowers, the family kindly invites donations to the Edmonton Oilers Community Foundation, the Stollery Children’s Hospital, or a charity of your choice.
