Sergio Leonardo Gaggero Toro passed away on Sept 16, 2024 at the age of 74 in Edmonton, AB after a brief battle with Cancer. He was born Jan 16, 1950 in Santiago, Chile to parents Sergio Leonardo Gaggero Marin and Lila Adriana Del Rosario Toro. He was the oldest of 3 children, leaving behind his sister Liliana and predeceased by his brother Eduardo (Lalo) . He will be greatly missed by his children Gonzalo, Vali, Tania and Bianca and step-son Derrick (Norman), grandchildren Tatyanna, Kasandra, Lilliana, Kira Mila, Izabella, Anyisa, Amalia, Josefina, Kalina, Emiliano, great-grandchildren Alaia, Lorenzo and Gianina, his 3 nieces and nephews and his loving wife Celmira.
He made the brave decision to escape the disruption in his beloved country Chile in 1976 to move to Canada via Brazil and Miami to provide a better life for his family with his then partner Selva. Some values he lived by were to take advantage of every opportunity available to you and to always do good and help others, so after a few years in Canada he went back to school for his passion of social work. Working for the Government of Alberta and the Chilean community he improved so many lives and quickly became a pillar of the community in everyone’s eyes but his own. His love and humility touched everyone he came in contact with.
He lived by his mother’s motto “As el bien y no mires a quien” “always do a good deed to everyone regardless of who they are”.
The family welcomes you to celebrate his life at Hainstock’s Funeral Home, 9810 34 Ave NW, Oct 5, 2024 at 2:00 p.m. His special request is that no one is wearing black, please wear brightly coloured clothing.
