July 11, 1968 – July 3, 2022
With great sadness we share the news of the loss of our treasured Stephanie Jean Sjerve on July 3, 2022 at the age of 53. She leaves behind her beloved husband Eric of 32 years, her daughter Samantha (Tyler) Ries, her sons Cameron (Nastasia) Sjerve and Brendan Sjerve, and her granddaughter Lilah.
Stephanie was born in Prince Rupert, BC in 1968 to parents Ian and Jean Brown. The family moved shortly to Burnaby, eventually settling in Vancouver where Stephanie attended high school and university. As a teenager, Stephanie was active in sports, particularly in field hockey, which is where she met her future husband and love of her life, Eric. After they both graduated from the University of British Columbia, they married in 1990 and moved to Toronto where Stephanie supported Eric as he pursued a graduate degree in Physics. There they started their family with Stephanie giving birth to a daughter, Samantha, and a little over a year later to their son, Cameron. The family settled in Edmonton in 1997, and their son Brendan, was born the next year.
Stephanie was happiest when she was surrounded by family. Nothing gave Stephanie more pride and satisfaction than raising her three children, instilling in them the importance of family, teamwork, education, and pursuing their passions. Stephanie meticulously decorated every holiday and special occasion, lovingly preparing meals that filled the home with warmth. She was the focal point of the Sjerve family, and she took great pride in the kids and what they were doing, and she was always devotely involved in their lives.
Stephanie’s own passions included gardening, being given the Gardens in Bloom award by the City of Edmonton and receiving her designation as Master Gardener by the University of Alberta in 2013. Stephanie also loved to travel, having gone to over 20 countries with Eric and the children over the years. She enjoyed the outdoors and going on camping trips with the family in their tent trailer, exploring different parts of Alberta. Her passion for family and the outdoors were brought together when the family purchased a cabin on Gull Lake. The cabin became a focal point for the family and friends, where people would gather for boating adventures during the summer days, spectacular bonfires in the evenings, and the closeness that comes from the family being together.
Stephanie will be dearly missed by members of her community, her Bible study group, many close friends, and most of all by her family who surrounded her and each other with love and support at her passing. We dearly miss you.
A funeral will be held on Thursday, July 21 from 2:00pm to 4:00pm at St Margaret’s Anglican Church, 12603 Ellerslie Road SW, Edmonton AB.
