Stuart William Govenlock, 72, passed away on November 21, 2020 after complications from lung cancer. He is predeceased by his soul-mate Terry, his parents Bessie and Gordon (Elizabeth), sister Carrie, and daughter Diana. He leaves to mourn his passing his brother Alden (Kathie) children Karen (Robin), Teresa, Gordon, Geralynn (Jamie) and Kenneth (J’aime), step-children Tina, Toni (John), and Lynette, grandchildren Christopher, Colin, Elissa, Justin, Christopher, Shaun, Sissy, Steven, Wanda, Taylor, Connor, Owen, Jimmi, Cheryl, Tiarra, Sara, James, and Anna, and great-grandchildren Heidi, Levi, Zeva, Connor, Keiran, Ezra, Caius, Heath and Timothy. Stuart was incredibly proud of his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren and would consider his large family to be one of his greatest legacies. Stuart also leaves behind a huge list of other relatives and friends who will all miss him dearly.
Stuart spent most of his life turning wrenches in the mining industry. He was a talented mechanic and his coworkers commented that the worksites were better places with him there. One of the highlights of his working career was being able to work alongside his grandson Chris at both the Hope Bay and Snap Lake mine sites. Stuart’s hobbies included spending time with family, camping, cooking, and fishing, and he was happiest when he could combine all four. We will miss his many specialties in the kitchen – Yorkshire pudding, spaghetti, ribs, clam chowder, and of course, his buns.
Stuart was somebody who was known for lacking patience and being quite impulsive. When he made up his mind to do something – travelling to a new campsite, retiring from his job, or making a big purchase, he did it without a lot of advance notice. Nowhere was this more evident than in his passing. He talked to many of us on Friday, and nobody expected him to leave us the following day. Safe travels to wherever your passing takes you. We love and miss you, and, although richer for having known you, we are sad to see you leave. In lieu of flowers, please do something that you enjoyed doing with Stuart – go camping, play some pool, eat some fish and chips (halibut of course), bake some buns, or drink a beer. We will remember Stuart with a virtual gathering on December 12. Email [email protected] for the link.
